How does your project compare to other research and journalism on family content creators?

There’s been bad press about family content creators, but my approach is open-minded and nonjudgmental. I seek to center the voices and perspectives of children and parents creating family content.

While previous research has primarily examined family content creators’ social media output, my study engages directly with families to gain a better appreciation of their lives and work.
How does the project work?
This project involves three phases:

phase 1 (complete ✔️): interviewing young adults who grew up in content creator families

phase 2 (complete ✔️): attending VidCon and speaking with attendees

phase 3 (in progress...): interviewing and spending time with family content creators, as well as reviewing the content they post online
Can you tell me more about phase 3?
Yes! Phase 3, for which I am currently recruiting participants, involves three parts:

part 1: interviewing family members (parents and children ages 7+)

part 2: potentially observing and interacting with families as they create social media content, both inside and outside their homes

part 3: observing families' online presence and social media content
How can I get involved with the research?
If you're a content creator family: I'd love to enroll your family in phase 3 if you are interested and meet eligibility requirements. Please note that, while your family is welcome to participate in both the interview and the observation portion, you may choose to participate in just one and will be compensated for doing so.
